Wiltshire Poppy Ball to raise money for charity and commemorate those who've served our country
- AuthorAnna Cole
Novum Law Partner, Anna Cole from our Swindon office, will be attending the popular Wiltshire Poppy Ball on 3 November organised by the Rotary Club of Swindon Thamesdown in association with the Royal British Legion.
Hosted by the STEAM Museum at the Great Western Railway, the event raises lots of money each year for good, local causes while commemorating all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to secure and protect our freedom.
Anna will be attending the ball with Headway Swindon, the local brain injury charity which helps and supports brain injury survivors and their families. The charity was selected this year by the Rotary Club of Swindon Thamesdown as one of the club president’s chosen charities for 2018.
Joining her will be Headway Swindon CEO Jane Weston, Headway Swindon’s service development manager Sonia de Blaquiere and Lindsay Grayson, the charity’s support worker.
All guests at the ball will enjoy a welcome cocktail, take part in a traditional remembrance commemoration ceremony and be treated to a delicious three course sit-down meal with entertainment provided by the Royal Marines Orchestra, Marching Band and Corps of Drums.
A silent auction will be held to raise money for several military charities including: the Poppy Appeal, SSAFA, which provides lifelong support to soldiers and their families and the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, as well as other well-deserving local charities, including Headway Swindon.
Anna said: “The Wiltshire Poppy Ball has over the years, grown to become an important commemorative event to honour all those who have served over the years. It is also an essential, major fundraiser to help military support organisations and other local charities continue to do the fantastic work they do supporting those in most need.
“In the Swindon area and across Wiltshire, we have a very high percentage of serving members of the armed forces and ex-service personnel and many of us have family members or friends who’ve served or been involved in the military. That’s what makes the Wiltshire Poppy Ball such a poignant event – paying tribute to those who’ve made sacrifices for our country, while raising money for great causes at the same time.”
The Wiltshire Poppy Ball and Gala Evening will take place on Tuesday 3 November 2018 at the STEAM Museum in Swindon. Doors open at 18.00 and the event starts at 19.00.
