Mr B was involved in a road traffic accident when he was only 17 years of age. He was a front seat passenger of a vehicle that veered onto the wrong side of a road when another vehicle was coming towards them. Mr B took the brunt of the impact. As a result Mr B sustained a very severe brain injury which left him with both physical and cognitive deficits.
Initially Mr B appointed solicitors local to him through his father and Litigation Friend. Unfortunately, Mr B received little in the way of rehabilitation or support from statutory services and Mr B’s parents became responsible for meeting all of his support requirements. We were contacted by Mr B’s father as his family were concerned the case was not progressing. The decision was made to transfer the file over to our team and an application for an interim payment in the sum of £125,000 was immediately made in order to implement a rehabilitation and support programme for Mr B.
The Defendant valued Mr B’s claim at £500,000. The matter went to trial but settled one week after all the evidence was heard. The settlement was for a lump-sum of £2.9 million, almost six times more than the Defendant’s previous valuation of the claim.
