Tomorrow (Sunday 13 September 2020) is World Sepsis Day, a global day of awareness to highlight the dangers of sepsis and to raise money to save lives.
According to the Global Sepsis Alliance, there are 47-50 million cases of sepsis in the world each year and it is the cause of death in one in five deaths worldwide.
It is a condition that can have devastating consequences if it is not diagnosed early enough and treated promptly. It can prove fatal even for people who are generally in good health.
It is therefore crucial that public awareness is raised about the dangers of sepsis and that everyone in the medical profession can recognise the signs and symptoms and takes urgent action.
Sepsis is a deadly infection which is sometimes referred to as septicaemia or blood poisoning. If it is not treated as quickly as possible, it can lead to shock, multi-organ failure, and death.
The UK Sepsis Trust estimates that sepsis kills 52,000 people per year in the UK.
If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, it is vital to seek medical help urgently:
As specialist medical negligence solicitors, Novum Law has helped many people and their families who have been affected by sepsis. Delays in the diagnosis of sepsis or being given the wrong medical treatment can lead to serious, life-changing injuries including brain injury and amputation. In some tragic cases, it can result in death.
If you or a loved one has suffered because sepsis or a hospital-acquired infection was diagnosed too late, misdiagnosed, or wasn’t treated properly, you may be entitled to make a medical negligence claim for compensation.
