BIRT (Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust) has recently opened its brand new specialist assessment and rehabilitation centre in Llanelli. This is the first brain injury centre in Wales and means that people who have been affected by brain injury no longer have to leave the Country to get the help and support they need.
They are offering a large range of assessment and rehabilitation options to those with an acquired brain injury. There are 24 beds, 18 of these have en suite rooms in the main Centre, two independent living flats and four fully furnished self contained apartments.
This is a fantastic step forward for brain injury rehabilitation. The Centre itself has brought a significant number of jobs to the local area with the potential for this to grow. Sarah Clifford, BIRT’s communications director, has said: “Most of the people employed here are from the local area and they are employed in specialist jobs.
BIRT is the leading brain injury rehabilitation charity in the UK. With this new Centre opening in Wales, BIRT can continue to guide service users through the entire process of rehabilitation, offering support, education and continuing to help families, carers and friends. BIRT actively promote the involvement of families in the rehabilitation process.
This is great news for brain injury and great news for Wales!!
