Salisbury law firm delivers careers talk to pupils from South Wilts Grammar School

Some 160 students from South Wiltshire Grammar School on Stratford Road in Salisbury were recently treated to an informative careers talk delivered by specialist personal injury law firm, Novum Law.

Hannah Carr, who joined Novum Law in December from a firm in Chippenham, where she was head of personal injury and medical negligence, talked to students about her role as a specialist personal injury solicitor in Salisbury. She was joined by solicitor Jessica Ryan, who qualified as a solicitor last year.

The assembled students were keen to hear about what a career in law is really like, learn about the different routes to becoming a fully qualified solicitor, the different specialisms within the law, as well as potential earnings.

The Novum Law careers talk was organised as part of a Wiltshire Council initiative which pairs schools and businesses through the Swindon and Wiltshire Enterprise Adviser Network. The aim of the Network is to create strong and lasting connections between local businesses and schools and colleges in the Swindon & Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership area to help further develop and support careers and enterprise activities.

Hannah Carr said: “It was a pleasure to visit South Wilts Grammar School to speak to pupils about my experiences in the law and answer their questions. The students were very attentive and engaged in the session and it was an honour to be there and to offer useful advice and information about the huge benefits of pursuing a career in the law.

“Trying to decide on a future career path can be a difficult process for young people. It requires lots of careful consideration. Listening to people working in the sector you’re interested in, asking the right questions and seeking expert guidance is an essential part of this process. It is personally very rewarding to think we may have helped someone who is interested in embarking on a law career.”
