The world will come together this Saturday (4 February) to mark World Cancer Day 2023.
This is a global campaign led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to ‘close the care gap’ to ensure that everyone with cancer has access to an accurate diagnosis, treatment and care.
Mesothelioma is a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. This World Cancer Day, it is important to remember patients with rare cancers, like mesothelioma, who often face unique challenges securing a diagnosis and access to the specialist treatment they need.
Mesothelioma UK – a lifeline for mesothelioma patients
Tragically, around 2,500 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma in the UK each year. Fortunately, help is at hand for patients from Mesothelioma UK, a national charity dedicated to supporting all UK mesothelioma patients and their families.
The charity provides support to help people with mesothelioma live better and live longer and to prevent mesothelioma happening to future generations. It campaigns for better treatment and care to enhance quality of life, and supports clinical research.
A key focus for Mesothelioma UK is to provide access to specialist nurses at the point of need, in local hospitals across the UK.
Its Clinical Nurse Specialists provide expertise, increased access to clinical trials, an increase in the number of patients accessing treatment, a lower rate of unplanned admissions, better management of symptoms and an overall increase in the quality of life for patients.
Novum Law Director Andrew Stinchcombe, a specialist asbestos disease solicitor, says:
“When we think about World Cancer Day and the overall theme of ‘closing the care gap’, it’s clear to me that Mesothelioma UK is bridging that gap when it comes to mesothelioma. Over 19 years, the charity has led the way, advocating for mesothelioma patients, campaigning for better research, and improved access to clinical trials. It has had a huge impact on driving up standards of mesothelioma care across the UK.
“That is why Novum Law is proud to be a member of the Mesothelioma UK Legal Panel, so that we can help as many mesothelioma patients as possible get justice and secure the financial compensation they need to protect their families and get much-needed peace of mind.”
If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or a family member has been diagnosed with the disease or has sadly died, Novum Law’s team of specialist asbestos solicitors can help on a No Win, No Fee basis.
