May can only mean one thing – and that’s Muffins for Meso! Last week, Novum Law colleagues across our offices showed off their expert baking skills for our first in-person Muffins for Meso events since 2019 raising nearly £600 to help patients with asbestos cancer.
Muffins for Meso is organised by the charity Mesothelioma UK. It aims to raise money for the charity’s vital work supporting individuals and their loved ones who have been affected by mesothelioma, which is a rare but sadly fatal cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. Donations will help Mesothelioma UK fund specialist nurses, research, and education, all of which mean a greater chance to improve the care and treatment of mesothelioma patients.
Novum Law’s Muffins for Meso events
This year, our colleagues in the Bristol office baked muffins themed around the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Some amazing bakes were created, with an eclectic range of flavours ranging from strawberries and cream to chilli and pineapple! We were also fortunate enough to receive generous donations from local businesses in Bristol, and Cakesmiths’ brownies and billionaire’s shortbread and Parsons Bakery’s carrot cake muffins went down a treat.
Novum Law team members in Southampton and the Isle of Wight also did a fantastic job hosting coffee mornings for colleagues, contacts and suppliers. Everyone who came along really enjoyed getting to see one another, in some cases for the first time since Covid-19 and raising money for a good cause at the same time.
Altogether, our Muffins for Meso events were a great success. Attendees got to sample some delicious cakes, but more importantly through their generous donations we raised a fantastic £577 for Mesothelioma UK!
Raising money for an important cause
Andrew Stinchcombe, a Director of Novum Law, specialist asbestos disease solicitor and keen Muffins for Meso participant says:
“As ever, it was fantastic to take part in Muffins for Meso, but it was even better to help raise money for such an important cause. At Novum Law, we’re lucky enough to see first-hand the hugely important work Mesothelioma UK do, and it’s a privilege to be able to do our bit to support them.
“It’s great to be able to get back together in person again, but even when we’ve had to hold virtual events, we’ve always been so thankful for the support everyone consistently shows for Muffins for Meso.
“All that remains to be said for this year is a huge thank you for every kind donation – and for our participants’ baking talents!”
