‘Travel like you know them’: Road safety made personal
Earlier this summer, the UK government relaunched its THINK! road safety campaign, reminding people to ‘Travel like you know them’ to highlight the human cost of road traffic accidents. The...
This May, Novum Law was delighted to both sponsor and attend the Lung Cancer Nursing UK (LCNUK) 2022 Annual Conference in London, which was held in-person for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
The two-day conference is an important event for lung cancer nurses, as it provides relevant and important training delivered by well-known speakers in the field. It is also a great opportunity for the nurses to meet each other and share information with their friends and colleagues.
Novum Law specialist asbestos lawyers Andrew Stinchcombe, Alison Sayers and Phillip Gower attended the event and were on the sponsors’ stand to meet the nurses and other healthcare professionals. Other sponsors included Mesothelioma UK, Cancer Research UK, Asbestos Victims Support Groups Forum UK, the Ruth Strauss Foundation and the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
The conference offered many interesting and useful presentations and opportunities during the breaks for the nurses to visit the sponsors for a catch up. It was a valuable chance to talk about asbestos-related issues with colleagues, but also to recognise the very difficult past two years that the nurses have gone through.
In the evening guests attended the Gala dinner. This provided the opportunity for everyone to unwind and enjoy themselves fully with a 3-course dinner, wine and a live band – plus the chance for everyone to let their hair down on the dancefloor!
Everyone was up bright and early on the following morning for the first presentation of the day, which included a speech by Christine Jones about mesothelioma. Christine is a specialist lung cancer nurse based at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and a representative of Mesothelioma UK.
She has been instrumental in setting up the South West Asbestos Support and Awareness Group (SWASAG). SWASAG raises awareness of the dangers of asbestos, and provides valuable support to patients and their carers. Christine’s talk offered a fascinating insight into what it is like to advise and care for people affected by asbestos-related diseases and was one of the highlights of the conference.
Novum Law Director Andrew Stinchcombe says:
“The LCNUK 2022 Annual Conference was a fantastic event attended by nurses throughout the UK, and Novum Law was very proud to be a sponsor. By supporting events such as this, we hope that we can do our bit to ensure that lung cancer nurses are equipped to carry out their vital work with the best resources and information available.
“However, it really is a two-way street. By attending the conference, myself and my colleagues Alison and Phillip learned a lot. We gained some valuable insights from the nurses who work on the ground providing crucial care to those affected by lung cancer and asbestos-related cancers like mesothelioma.
“We really value the strong relationship we have with the nursing community and look forward to continue working with them to ensure patients have access to expert legal advice and support when they need it.”
