On Action Mesothelioma Day 2023, lawyers from Novum Law’s specialist mesothelioma compensation team took part in a nationwide day of events to raise awareness of this deadly asbestos cancer.
Did you know, for instance, that the UK has one of the worst rates of mesothelioma in the world with around 2,500 people diagnosed every year?
Action Mesothelioma Day is a day to remember those lost to mesothelioma and their loved ones, and to share news and updates about the latest treatments and breakthroughs offering hope for the future. The “Go Blue for Meso” campaign lights up national landmarks in blue – as a light in the darkness.
Novum Law’s expert mesothelioma team attended events in Bristol and Plymouth, and were delighted to see Bristol’s City Hall amongst the major national landmarks shining blue for Go Blue for Meso in the evening.
Working with our clients on their mesothelioma compensation claims, our expert lawyers are only too aware of the effects of this terrible cancer can have on patients and their families. We want to prevent future suffering if we possibly can. Raising awareness of mesothelioma is a way to achieve that, as well as making sure that those affected by mesothelioma today are heard and supported.
We would like to thank everyone for their hard work in pulling the events together. In a busy world, we rarely have such an opportunity to pause and reflect upon how far we have come in the fight against asbestos cancer, but also how far we still have to go.
For Bristol’s Action Mesothelioma Day event, Mesothelioma UK clinical nurse specialist Anna Morley hosted a gathering at the M Shed museum, where patients and carers from asbestos disease support groups were joined by specialist mesothelioma law firms including Novum Law.
After chatting and catching up with familiar faces, attendees came together to remember family, friends, loved ones and clients lost to mesothelioma. Expert nurse Anna gave a moving speech, offering hope for the future with news of recent mesothelioma research and treatment breakthroughs as well as commemorating those who have lost their lives to asbestos cancer.
In Plymouth, specialist mesothelioma lawyers Brigit Nolan and Andrew Stinchcombe visited the Home Park football stadium for an event organised by the South West Asbestos Support and Awareness Group (SWASAG).
After a morning of talks from medical specialists and asbestos support groups which underlined Action Mesothelioma Day’s drive to ensure change and the prevention of future asbestos deaths, they attended a beautiful commemorative butterfly release in memory of everyone affected by mesothelioma.
Following the day’s events, Friday evening saw buildings and landmarks across the country including Bristol’s City Hall Go Blue for Meso, shining in the night to put a spotlight on the battle against mesothelioma.
Rebecca Ryan is a specialist asbestos disease solicitor with over 10 years’ experience supporting people with mesothelioma compensation claims. She attended Bristol’s Action Mesothelioma Day event on behalf of Novum Law and says:
“As always, Action Mesothelioma Day and Go Blue for Meso provided opportunities for all of us working in this field to come together in memory of those we have known who have had their lives affected by mesothelioma.
“The fight against mesothelioma is a collaborative one, bringing together a huge range of dedicated, hardworking people including patients and their families, legal experts like us, medical professionals, and volunteers.
“We had a chance to shine a light on mesothelioma, raising awareness of this terrible cancer in the hope that future suffering can be prevented. It was a moving experience to see major buildings like Bristol’s City Hall shine blue, and we hope it inspired passersby to find out more about mesothelioma.”
“Sincere thanks go to SWASAG and Anna Morley for their hard work behind the scenes in organising these important events.”
Action Mesothelioma Day is organised by the UK Mesothelioma Alliance, which is a group of charities and asbestos victim support groups including Action Meso, Mesothelioma UK, Lung Cancer Nursing UK, and the Asbestos Support Groups Forum UK.
