Yesterday (1 December 2022) Novum Law specialist asbestos solicitors Rebecca Ryan and Alison Sayers attended the 2022 Mesothelioma Essential Update. This was the first such event, held jointly by the asbestos cancer charity Mesothelioma UK, and the British Thoracic Oncology Group, known as BTOG.
BTOG is a group for healthcare professionals from all disciplines who deal with cancers involving the chest. Mesothelioma UK is a national charity that supports patients diagnosed with mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer, and their families. It provides access to specialist nurses, advocates for better treatment and care, and supports research.
Novum Law is proud to be on the Mesothelioma UK Legal Panel, where our specialist solicitors support individuals and their loved ones with mesothelioma compensation claims.
The joint event was attended by nurses, consultants, care experts, benefits advisors and solicitors. Everyone came together for a day packed full of information focused on mesothelioma. Attendees listened to talks covering a wide range of topics. These included the genetics of mesothelioma, the future of surgery and the use of radiotherapy for mesothelioma, as well as many other aspects which will help healthcare professionals better understand and treat this devastating disease.
Rebecca and Alison also attended a talk giving an overview of a mesothelioma legal claim and its process. It detailed how compensation can help a person diagnosed with mesothelioma and their family, whether compensation is used to fund private treatment and care, or simply provide some financial reassurance that loved ones will be taken care of.
Mesothelioma UK’s Benefits Advisor also spoke about the importance of applying quickly for benefits that the patient may be entitled to from the Government, such as Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme 2008.
Alison says:
“It was good to hear about the importance of healthcare professionals signposting patients early on to seek legal advice.
“The day provided useful, current information, but also gave a chance for everyone in the field to come together to catch up with friends and colleagues, meet new people and swap stories.
“We’d like to thank BTOG and Mesothelioma UK for organising and hosting this valuable event.”
