What are the most common farming accidents?
Over 300,000 people in Britain work in the agricultural sector today. Many farmers and farm workers were raised in farming families or communities and are proud of the rewarding work...
Next week, a unique challenge to raise funds for the Isle of Wight charity, ‘The Wight Brainy Bunch’ takes place involving all three emergency services making a speedy getaway from the Island.
On 12 September, teams of two off-duty personnel from the police, fire service and ambulance service will go ‘on the run’ and compete to see who can get as far away from the Isle of Wight as possible in just 50 hours – with zero planning and zero money.
The teams from Hampshire Constabulary, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have volunteered their free time to take part in the challenge to support The Wight Brainy Bunch charity, founded by firefighter Mark Grimes and his wife Kathryn, following Mark’s brain tumour diagnosis in 2015.
The charity helps families living on the Isle of Wight who are dealing with a brain tumour diagnosis. It offers a valuable support network and provides vital information and emotional support, not only to patients themselves but to their carers and family members.
The Wight Brainy Bunch also provides financial assistance to families struggling with travel costs to the mainland for their appointments and treatment, and helps to cover the costs associated with loss of earnings, specialist equipment to improve mobility, counselling services, physio and cognitive therapy to aid rehabilitation as well as short respite breaks and memory making experiences for those with a terminal diagnosis.
Novum Law is sponsoring the event along with estate agents Maher Ross, DDC Electronics and other local Island businesses to ensure each team can be repatriated to the Island following their two-day challenge.
Everyone who wants to support the fundraiser can pick their favourite team in return for a donation with all proceeds going directly to the charity.
We are backing Team Police all the way and have everything crossed that officers Tom and Iain will use their specialist negotiation skills to successfully talk themselves off the Island and make a quick and effective getaway as far away as possible.
To donate, all you need to do is text the team code plus the amount you want to give to 70085. The team codes are:
