This Saturday (25 June) is Armed Forces Day. This is a special day when physical and virtual events are held across the UK to recognise and thank our Armed Forces community for everything they do to keep us safe from harm at home and abroad.
Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday of June every year, but the celebrations usually begin the week before, when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on landmark buildings throughout the nation.
In Plymouth, Armed Forces Day is always a big event and there will be a huge amount of things going on. This includes military parades, live music and lots of equipment on display to explore from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Marines and the Emergency Services.
There will also be a Veterans’ Village where local charities and organisations will showcase their work and offer information, advice, and support, as well as training and recruitment opportunities.
This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands and there will be a dedicated parade on Plymouth Hoe.
Rebecca Brisley, Associate Solicitor at Novum Law, based in our Plymouth team and married to a former Royal Marine, says:
“Armed Forces Day is a fantastic chance for everyone, young and old, to show their support for the men and women who make up our Armed Forces community – from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.
“Showing your support for the Armed Forces provides a huge morale boost for troops and their families. As the wife of a former Royal Marine, I can very much vouch for this and it is wonderful when the public recognise and celebrate the Armed Forces’ tremendous service to our country on Armed Forces Day.
“At Novum Law, we do what we can to show our support for the Armed Forces. Last year, we signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant to acknowledge those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, and to pledge they should be treated with fairness and respect in the community, economy and society.
“As a specialist legal service, we are always on hand to provide important help, support and expert advice if you have been injured in an accident and you are a member of the Armed Forces community. Our team offers honest, straightforward advice and can point you in the right direction if you need additional support.”
