It has been reported that many people who are suffering from Diffuse Mesothelioma and who are entitled to claim a pay out from insurers have not done so, because they do not know about the existence of the Diffuse Mesothelioma Scheme.
The new Scheme opened in April 2014, and is available to sufferers of Diffuse Mesothelioma who were diagnosed after July 25 2012, or families of sufferers who have died, and who cannot trace an employer or an employers insurer.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has reportedly stated that it is still waiting for hundreds of victims suffering from Diffuse Mesothelioma to come forward to claim the compensation to which they are entitled. So far, £15 million pounds has been paid by the insurance industry, but it is estimated that £32 million pounds could be paid out by the end of March 2015.
Andrew Stinchcombe of Novum Law comments “ The introduction of the New Mesothelioma Scheme is welcome news for those people who cannot claim compensation because the employers have gone out of business, or the insurers cannot be traced. People are encouraged to come forward to claim compensation through this Scheme and it is important that the existence of this Scheme is publicised as much as possible
Details of the Government compensation Scheme and how to apply are available on www.mesoscheme.org.uk and on 0131 331 9090.
