Asbestos team brush up on general knowledge for HASAG fundraising quiz

Novum Law’s asbestos team in Southampton have been busy brushing up on their general knowledge ahead of a fundraising quiz in aid of HASAG, the charity which supports asbestos disease sufferers and their families across the South of England.

The quiz is the charity’s annual fundraising event this year and will be held at the Novotel in Southampton this evening (22 September) from 6-9pm. It will see lots of HASAG supporters and would-be quiz champions compete to be the brainiest, most knowledgeable team on the night while raising money for a very worthwhile cause.

The evening will be hosted by the entrepreneur Daniel Lassman, formerly of BBC TV’s hit show ‘The Apprentice’ who now owns a business which runs pub quizzes throughout the UK.

There will also be a raffle with fantastic prizes to be won on the night, including a state-of-the-art coffee machine and a tablet donated by Novum Law, with all money raised going directly to asbestos-related disease research and support.

HASAG was founded by Lynne Squib and Diane Salisbury following the death of their father, Dave Salisbury, from the asbestos-related disease, mesothelioma, in December 2005, just 10 months after his devastating diagnosis. Lynne and Diane were determined that people affected by asbestos-related disease receive better treatment and care and support.

Since HASAG’s launch, the charity has made huge steps in raising awareness of asbestos-related illnesses and lobbied the Government on behalf of sufferers and their families for access to more effective treatment to improve the quality of life for victims of asbestos.

To date, HASAG has raised nearly £270,000 for research into asbestos disease but more money is needed to research how exactly how different asbestos diseases develop and the best treatments and therapies.

At tonight’s quiz, Novum Law’s specialist asbestos team will be hoping that their table will be victorious with the help and specialist knowledge of Novum Law chief executive Thomas Sheppard and colleagues and experts from the legal and medical sectors. Novum Law’s would-be victorious quiz champions include: Lisa from HASAG; Dr Alan Roberts, a Chest Physician from Winchester; Dr Rachel Limbrey, a Chest Physician from Southampton and barristers Kate Purdy and Mark Lomas from Winchester.

It promises to be a fun and educational evening!
