Novum Law, the specialist personal injury and medical negligence law firm has strengthened its team on the Isle of Wight with the promotion of Darren O’Sullivan to Partner. The appointment reflects strong business results which have been achieved by Novum Law’s Newport office.

Darren, who was born and bred on the Island, grew up in Yaverland and is a graduate of the University of East Anglia’s School of Law at Earlham Hall and qualified as a solicitor in 2002. He has 15 years’ experience working in the personal injury and medical negligence area and specialises in high value, complex cases involving traumatic brain injuries, amputation and spinal cord damage. He also regularly represents individuals and their families in complex and substantial medical negligence claims.

Darren has headed up Novum Law’s offices in Newport since its launch on the Isle in 2013 and is the only specialist solicitor based here that is approved by national brain injury charity Headway and The Brain Injury Group (BIG) to provide legal advice and representation in head and brain injury cases. The law firm has been grown steadily on the Island since it opened 18 months’ ago and Darren now has a five-strong team including new recruit, Jemma Valvona, who joined as a solicitor to further strengthen its specialist personal injury offering to Isle of Wight residents.

The team is currently dealing with personal injury and medical negligence cases with a combined estimated compensation of up to £52 million.

Based at the Innovation Centre at St. Cross Business Park in Newport, Novum Law recently tripled its office space and now occupies over 1,200 sq ft at the centre to accommodate new members of staff and to allow the team to grow further.

Chief Executive of Novum Law Thomas Sheppard said: “Darren has made a significant contribution to the business and has been instrumental in the expansion of our Newport practice. His expertise in personal injuries and medical negligence and his commitment to providing first class service to all our clients is exemplary. He will continue to play a pivotal role in driving forward the expansion of our services to exceed the needs and expectations of our clients on the Isle of Wight. It is a pleasure to reward his success through this well-deserved promotion to Partner.”

Darren added: “Novum Law is committed to helping and supporting residents on the Isle of Wight who have suffered serious injuries or illness through no fault of their own.  We’re proud to be based in Newport and have long established links to the Isle going way back. In fact, between us, the team has lived here for over 100 years! We understand the needs of the local community and are looking forward to continuing to provide legal advice and representation tailored to meet clients’ individual requirements.”
