Asbestos caused delays in City of Bath

  • Posted

It has been reported that the discovery of asbestos has caused delays to Bath’s £14million pound Casino scheme.

A Hotel, Casino and two restaurants are being constructed on the 0.7 acre site.

It is reported that work was due to start on the project last Summer but has been delayed until this year. Asbestos has slightly delayed the work but the Casino is still expected to open by the end of 2017. It is understood that more asbestos has been found in the structure than was originally anticipated.

Andrew Stinchcombe of Novum Law comments “ It is a sad fact that many older buildings will contain asbestos, and great care must be taken when such buildings are being disturbed. If asbestos dust is inhaled, it can cause deadly diseases many decades later. Unfortunately the number of cases of mesothelioma, which is an incurable lung cancer caused by asbestos, continues to rise due to the fact that many people were exposed to this deadly dust several decades ago”.
